asbestos reports
asbestos possibility in my local government building?

I have had reason to believe that there has been asbestos in my work building and have suffered chest and eye problems for last 3 months. Now we have had emails from office management that we should not be alarmed but men in asbestos suits and apparatus are doing routine inspection and not to be alarmed. They have come into building in steilf of morning about 7:30 am. I have requested copy of report but have been denied this even If I was to pay. This building I work in will be demolished and sold for no doubt luxury flats within two years so all evidence dies? I am more worried about my health what legal action can I take to assure my health is not at risk. Don’t say approach unison as I have found them nor use nor ornaument went I went through work related issues before! I am willing to pay for outcome report so what is the issue and why should they decline this request. Any sensible advice appreciated Local government and standing up to my rights will not be an issue with me!

Asbestos is not normally considered a health hazard until it is dismantled, it is the dust caused by the taking down of asbestos that causes the problems as it then gets into your lungs. Have you been to a doctor about your health issues? Then you could maybe get a clearer idea about whether it is caused by the asbestos or not. Asbestos exists in lots of older style buildings, and so long as it is regularly inspected it should not cause a problem – this is probably the routine inspection you have been informed of. Anyway, here’s some info I found from the HSE about asbestos:
