what year was asbestos taken out of artex and when you scrape it off the walls is it dangerous?
If the artex is heavily patterned is it better to board over it before plastering rather than scraping it off
the asbestos in artex is called chrysotile or white asbestos and is apparently the least deadly of the six types of asbestos. Artex removal no longer requires notification to the HSE and removal by licensed asbestos operatives. It can be removed by anyone as long as they trained in how to do so and use the correct tools, respiratory and protective equipment are used and the waste is put into one plastic bag, sealed and then put into another plastic bag which is also sealed air tight. the waste can then be taken to a local tip where they will have an asbestos waste skip.
i would recommend you contact the environmental health dept of your local council or the HSE ( health and safety executive) for further advice.
To be honest for all the messing about id look in yellow pages or ask the council for names of contractors in the area and ask for a few prices.
