early emphysema

Is emphysema/COPD progressive? I have 78% lung capacity?
and quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago after smoking 32 years. I run/walk, but find myself out of breath after climbing stairs. That 78% lung capacity was tested 3 years ago. Am I to expect worse and worse percentages?
I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis at age 15 and with emphysema at 40. Has anyone heard of emphysema at an early age as a genetic illness? I am not on any meds. How often should I visit my pulmonary specialist.
Sorry to ask to many Qs. I grew up in LA before there were any Clean Air Acts.
Hi. You may be ok as you had the test when you were still smoking – and you know how much better you breathe after you quit. Just go and see the nurse.
I worked in a medical centre and did notice (on posters) that they tested people for copd over the age of 35 so this must mean it does occur not unfrequently at that young age. You obviously have a weakness in your chest area from childhood although running should have strengthened this ?
I think Amy Winehouse and Tracey emin had emphysema diagnosises at young ages.
